“If you do not deal with your money, your money will deal with you” ~Barabara Stanny
I met Barbara Stanny a year ago when I was taking Mama Gena’s School of Womanly Arts Mastery Program. I attended one of her Overcoming Under Earning Workshops and was deeply impressed. Barbara grew up in a very wealthy family who never talked about money. She was actually afraid of money and relied on her wealthy father (the “R” in H&R Block), and later her “financial advisor” husband to take care of her finances. The problem was her husband was also a compulsive gambler. Year after year he gambled away her fortune. One day when Barbara tried to pull out $60 from the ATM and was declined, she knew she had to do something. She divorced her husband and went on a quest to learn how to be smart with money. Through her learning and experience she became a well known lecturer and author of several books including Overcoming Under Earning, Secrets of Six Figure Women, and many other brilliant books which support women (and men) in revolutionizing their relationship with money.
When I heard her story I realized I had the same “I don’t want to deal with it” attitude about money. As soon as I got married I let my husband manage EVERYTHING regarding our finances. He was very sweet to do this for me, however, avoiding my fears didn’t serve me. I never truly knew how much we had and this would cause an underlying uneasiness any time I would spend money and at the same time taught me not to care how much I spent or even look at prices. I decided right then and there to get involved and develop a personal relationship with money. I got my own personal checking account and Bryan and I started doing our finances together. When I put into practice Barbara Stanny’s advice, miracles started happening in our financial situation! We attracted more money, started saving money, and I coincidently got involved in my own online business (I didn’t “work” before then) and started receiving my own personal income!
According to Stanny, an “under earner” is anyone who needs or desires to earn more but can’t, despite their efforts to do otherwise. She taught me that being an under earner is not a conscious choice, it is a self-deprivation of time, joy, freedom, and self-esteem. The basic characteristics of an under earner is someone who does not value herself, someone who puts others needs before her own, and someone who is afraid to be uncomfortable and try new things.
Below I have posted 3 of Barbara Stanny’s brilliant money formulas which have worked wonders for me…

1. Desire To Earn More Money. Money is a good thing. You must first like money and feel good about having money before you can attract more money into your life. Many actually think people with money are “bad” and people who desire money are “bad.”
2. Be Willing To Do What You Don’t Think You Can Do. Every time you find yourself saying “I can’t do this” – know that is exactly what you require to do next. High earners make this a way of life. If it’s not immoral or illegal, just say YES!
3. Be Careful Who You Hang Out With – Under earners either operate in isolation or surround themselves with worriers and complainers. High Earners surround themselves with Cheerleaders.
1. Spend Less
2. Save More
3. Invest Wisely
4. Give Generously
It’s important to follow this formula in this EXACT order. For example, if you give before you save you may self-sabotage your financial success. Stanny states that money is not really about money, it’s about power, and when you can manage your money you can manage your life.
1. Every Day Read Something About Money. Invest at least 10 minutes reading a self-help book, money magazine, or learning about investing.
2. Every Week Have a Conversation About Money. Consult with someone who knows more about money, ask questions, and be open to learn.
3. Every Month Automatically Save Money.
How you deal with your money is really habitual. Follow this formula and watch miracles happen! If you like the information I shared with you today, please leave a comment below and retweet this post:)
