Symbol of our Times: My Ode to Avatar

The big hit movie Avatar, directed by James Cameron, has been interpreted in many different ways and has stimulated much controversy. The New York Times article, “Opening Pandora’s Box: The Arguments Over Avatar,” expounds upon the uproar Avatar has caused in gender, racial, environmental and religious sectors. Everyone has a different take on the meaning of this movie. I have seen avatar 3 times so far. The first time I went with my family. Each member of my family had a different opinion as well. My sister Amy, who is proactive and organized, said it was way too long. My sister Rachel, a fabulous artist, said it had amazing graphics. My brother-in law James, a good old country boy, said he was glad it had a few explosions for the guys. Bryan, my nonchalant husband, said it was a pretty good movie. And as for me, Avatar touched the deepest part of my soul. It was a spiritually symbolic story representing everything that has been going on inside me and on our planet for the last few years. I think my first words after the movie finished were “WOW! That was an orgasmic experience!!” Here is my own personal synopsis of Avatar…

The main Character, Jake Sully, is living in Hell but doesn’t know it. He is living in a place filled with guns, wars, and devoid of beauty and connection. His body is deformed and he is paralyzed (spinal chord injury). This is all he knows about life. Through technology and his imagination, he receives a new body (his Avatar) and discovers a whole new magical world (Pandora). Once he commits to learning the ways of the Na’vi (the native people) he is given a guide who teaches him to understand “the flow of energy… the spirit of animals… a network of energy that flows through all living things” In his old world, he was taught that you had to be on guard because “every living thing wants to kill you and eat your eyes for jujubes” Neytiri, his guide, shows him a different point of view. First he must let go of all his old programming. As the Na’vi say, “it is hard to fill a cup which is already full.” He starts to discover how easy and beautiful life can be. He revels in his new body, which allows him to run, jump, and feel the sand beneath his feet. This is not his real body however, day after day he must return to his “reality.” And each time he does it becomes a more and more bleak place to be.

Oh how I relate to Jake. I too feel I am living in two worlds… Heaven and Hell. On his video log his words express my feelings clearly… “days are starting to blur together… everything is backward now… like out there is the true world and in here is the dream…. I don’t even remember my old life… I don’t know who I am anymore.” I have felt this same confusion going back and forth through my own consciousness of “reality.” My first reality is in my imagination, where everything is pristine and we have activated our divine blueprint and potential. I feel glimpses of immense peace and connection which the logical brain could never understand. And then there is my other reality, the reality we live in, where children are starving and men are fighting and radioactive water and waste is being poured down the drain. Globally and individually I feel people are waking up to this insanity and getting a glimpse of how good it could and should be… just like our friend Jake.

In Jake’s new world he learns of the divinity in everything and everyone. The Na’vi have a saying “I see you,” which means so much more than just physically seeing someone. It means to see into and understand the soul of the person you see. I experienced this phenomenon with my dear husband when we were still dating. We were in a movie theater with a mutual friend. All of a sudden we both turned to face each other and saw into each other’s souls! It is difficult to put into words how beautiful this moment was. It was as if our eyes grew twice their size and I could see the love that Bryan is. I fell in love with him for real in that moment. There was a magical vortex of energy connecting us. It was one of the most cosmic moments in my life!!

In the end Jake’s people try to destroy everything he has grown to know and love for the sake of power and money. The odds seem imposible but Jake decides to fight with the Na’vi and for his right to live this beautiful way of life. He takes courage and says, “Sometimes your whole life boils down to one insane move.” He asks the help of Eywa (the Goddess of the Na’vi), and when all hope was lost and defeat seemed inevitable, Eywa stepped in and won the battle for them. Just like in our own personal struggles and battles, grace is always required. We need grace to change our bodies and our world from one of destruction and hate, to one of beauty and love. Finally, Jake was able to leave the technocratic world behind forever and step into his new body and his new earth!! This is what touched me most, and this is the hope that sprouted inside my soul which made me cry for an hour after watching Avatar. The realization that we can, through the grace of God, fully step in to our new earth, both globally and personally.

Eliminate Energy Drainers to Achieve Instantaneous Manifestation of Your Desires

Yesterday was such a FABULOUS day!! I finally manifested some of my big desires and here is how I did it…

If you are taking all the right steps, saying all the right affirmations, thinking positively and still not manifesting your desires, there may be a few things blocking your progress. First, you may feel “unworthy” on some level. Confidence and self-love are crucial to manifestation. Second, you may be holding on too tightly to a certain outcome. The law of “non-resistance” and “non-attachment” play a big role in how quickly you manifest what you desire. A Course in Miracles states, “infinite patience is the only thing that gets immediate results.” Third, it may not be the right time for you. I strongly believe in “divine timing.” More often than not, however, the reason for delayed results in your manifestation is from some sort of physical or metaphysical clutter, habit, person or situation you are tolerating which is blocking your good from flowing into your life.

I encourage you to take a good look at your life; physically, emotionally, mentally, and in your relationships. Do you have something that is not aligned with your higher aspirations? If so, let it go. The results will be more than worth it!!

The Myth of Eating Complex Carbs by Chuck Bluestein

How exciting!! My first ever guest blogger:) His name is Chuck Bluestein and he, like me, is passionate about and does extensive research on the topics of Health and Nutrition. Read his article below as he dispels the myth of complex carbs. The Myth of Eating Complex Carbs by Chuck Bluestein

It is a myth that people eat complex carbs. Once I saw a video of a Buddhist monk in Japan eating complex carbs. My rule is that all rules have exceptions, except this one. Or all rules have exceptions including this one. But society was built on myths. It used to be a fact that the earth was flat until people learned that that was a myth. Then there was the fact that the sun orbited around the earth. When Copernicus first said that this was false, the Church killed him. The myth that the white Christian was better than everyone else has made history what it is. This is why native Americans were put on reservataions and blacks were made slaves.

There was some facts that all physicists knew until Albert Einstein came along and proved that they were myths. Note his theory of relativity was tested a little later when there was an eclipse and it proved his theory to be a fact or law of nature. He became a celebrity over night when his theory was proved with very precise mathematics.

Before that a newspaper reporter told him that 100 top physicists said that his theory of relativity was nonsense. He showed that the idea that time always moved at the same rate and lengths or distances are always the same were myths. Time slows down and distances shorten or contract as you move faster. Things also get heavier as they move faster. This amount is negligible unless you move at speeds near 180,000 miles per second (the speed of light).

So foods that have mostly simple carbs are called simple carbs or sugars. Foods that are mostly complex carbs are called complex carbs or starches. Actually when someone even mentions that a carb (carbohydrate) is simple or complex when talking about a healthy diet shows that they are confused. So here is how simple it is to know what is healthy. Dr Oz says to eat foods that do not have an ingredient list. Others says to eat foods created or grown by nature and not foods made by man. Some say to eat foods that have a high water content. They are also called back to nature foods.

When it comes to foods that are called simple carbs like apples and oranges, because they have a lot of simple carbs in them, people take them out of the package or wash them and then eat them. But when it comes to complex carbs or starches that are foods that are high in complex carbs, people do not wash them and eat them. Complex carbs are foods like potatoes, yucca roots, rice and other grains. You can sprout a grain but then it is no longer a grain or complex carb since you changed it.

The unripe banana is a complex carb and that is why you do not eat it. Complex carbs are harder and do not taste good. They are even harder to digest. Then the banana ripens and becomes a simple carb. That is why it gets sweeter the more it ripens. My grandfaher owned a wholesale fruit and produce business. He would say that when a banana was brown, it was as sweet as sugar and a baby can eat it. Now if you do not want to wait for the banana to ripen, you can change it into a simple carb by cooking it and then eating it.

So how long do you cook a complex carb like rice or potatoes? For as long as it takes for most of the complex carbs to change into simple carbs. Then not only is it softer, but it is better and sweeter tasting after you cooked it. It is also easier to digest. The raw (uncooked) yucca root is so hard that you can beat a guy to death with it. It would probably break your teeth if you tried to eat it raw. So that Buddhist monk in Japan on that video that I saw, was eating raw, uncooked hard rice that no one eats. So he was eating complex carbs. Vegetables are a mix of simple and complex carbs and it is more optional if they are cooked or not.

Then some people get really confused by mixing up simple and complex carbs, whole and refined grains and single and double sugars (mono and disaccharides). Then they say simple sugar instead of single sugar Just do an internet search for “simple sugar.” They talk about simple grains, whole carbohydrates and other things that do not exist. If someone says that eating complex carbs is healthier than eating simple carbs then they are saying that it is healthier to eat a raw unripe banana than a ripe banana.

“To Thine Own Self Be True” ~ The Power of Journaling

Here is a video I recorded of an excellent spiritual practice I use to receive clarity and inspiration, and to increase my confidence and love for myself….

Now you definitely don’t have to keep as many different journals as I do. One main journal works really well for most people. I have been keeping a journal since I was a teenager. Well, even longer if you count the childhood journals I threw away:( This practice is a beautiful way for me to connect with my core, learn from my past, and track my daily progress. If you are wondering what you can write in your journal, I have made a list of what I believe are the most important aspects of your life to record….

1. Your Goals. Anthony Robbins, in his book Unlimited Power, records: “A study of the 1953 graduates of Yale University clearly demonstrates the power of goals. The graduates interviewed were asked if they had a clear, specific set of goals written down with a plan for achieving those goals. Only 3 percent had such written goals. Twenty years later, in 1973, the researchers went back and interviewed the surviving members of the 1953 graduating class. They discovered that the 3 percent with written specific goals were worth more in financial terms than the entire other 97 percent put together… The interviewers also discovered the less measurable or more subjective measures, such as level of happiness and joy that the graduates felt, also seemed to be superior in the 3 percent with written goals.” This clearly demonstrates the power of writing down your goals!!

2. Your Feelings. When you share your feelings with others, you paint a picture of who you are to them. Your essence is then filtered through their individual judgements and opinions which can color your own clarity. When you choose instead to write your feelings down, “good” or “bad”, you always have an unbiased listener and may feel truly “heard” for the first time in your life. In my opinion, this is one of the best therapies available.

3. Your Memories. Record all the good in your life… your travels, your brags, and the most precious moments you experience. This will turn out to be invaluable to you as the years pass.

4. Your Favorite Quotes and Inspirations. As I pointed out in my video, you retain 75-90% more when you write something down. By recording your insights and what you learn, you will create an amazing source of knowledge at your fingertips. I love to re-read my journals on my Birthday and get re-inspired by all the gems contained inside.

5. Your Gratitudes. Gratitude is a high vibrational state to be in. Recording what you are grateful for on a daily basis will keep you focused on how amazing your life is!!

6. Your Questions. How do you receive what you desire? Ask! Richard Back wrote in Illusions, “Isn’t it strange how much we know if only we ask ourselves instead of somebody else?” By writing down your deep questions you are in effect asking your superconscious mind for the answer, and trust me, you will receive the answer. Be prepared!

Dancing with Your Pain Body

Today I am going to talk about one of my favorite subjects of all time… Alchemy. The practice of alchemy has been used for thousands of years by many ancient cultures. Physically, it is the process of turning lead into monoatomic gold; spiritually, it is a metaphor for turning our leaden human experience into spiritual gold. In my opinion, our “leaden human experience” is what Eckhart Tolle calls our Pain Body. It is the part of us that suffers. It is our pain, our anger, our fear, our depression, and our grief. Our pain body is a fragmented part of who we are; it is our dark shadow which has taken on a life of its own.

E.J Gold, Author of The Human Biological Machine as a Transformational Apparatus, writes, “Originally, the meaning of virtue was that the noble aims and aspirations of the essential self had reached down through the mental apparatus and rooted itself into the deepest part of the machine and that the aims and aspirations of the deepest darkest part of the machine had in fact become the same as those of the essential self.”

Before we can reclaim the energy of our pain body and transform it back into our light and life force, we must surrender to it. We must allow ourselves to fully experience and express our pain in a very present and conscious way. We must learn to celebrate our darkness. This may seem counter intuitive, yet, the more we avoid our pain and push it away, the larger our pain becomes and the more control it has over our life. Many people who are aware of this will try to just observe their pain consciously when it comes up, thinking this will transform it. The drawback to this theory is that they are not really embracing their emotions. They may be allowing them, but are they really saying YES to how they feel?

For those who have years of built up longing, suffering, sadness and despair, I suggest another technique. I suggest you dance for your longing; dance for your pain. Give your shadow expression by moving it into being… scream, rant, rave and roll around, allowing yourself to fully express your deep despair through your physical body. Allow your feelings to flow through you with every movement you make while playing music which expresses how you feel inside. Real change doesn’t happen in your head, real change happens through love and when we are rooted in our body. Dancing encompasses both of these things and will help you experience a true pain body release.

Music and dancing help you access your right brain. According to Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor author of My Stroke of Insight, “our right mind is spontaneous, carefree, and imaginative. It allows our artistic juices to flow free without inhibition or judgement. The present moment is a time when everything and everyone are connectd together as one. To the right mind, no time exists other than the present moment, and each moment is vibrant with sensation.” By embodying, through your dance, and accepting your feelings completely in the present moment, you will naturally transform. It is at this moment you will become an alchemist. You will see the divinity and perfection in all that you experience. Once your feelings are seen, loved, expressed, and acknowledged, they will melt back into you and shine through you as your light and life force. You will feel enthusiasm for your life again and peace in your body.

Wild Chickweed Foraging and Yummy Raw Dip

Here is a fun video I recorded of my chickweed foraging adventure:) I also included a yummy raw recipe for you. The awesome thing about chickweed is it can survive cold weather, making it an excellent herb to consume in the winter!

Benefits of Chickweed:

Like most wild food it is super high in vitamins and minerals (Iron, Copper, Manganese, Magnesium, Zinc, Potassium, Vitamin C and A)
Helps maintain healthy weight (contains saponins, which may help to bind fats and remove them from the body)
Nourishing for the lungs
Great for drawing out infections and soothing pain (excellent herb to add in your homemade salves and oil infusions)
Great remedy for eye problems (sties, conjunctivitis, pink eye, etc.)

Memory Enhancing Tip: Inversions make You Smarter

I love how often the most powerful and life transforming advice is the easiest thing to implement. All it takes is a little action on our part. Today I have a fun and simple technique that you can use which will restore and maintain memory, alertness, and increase the supply of blood flow into your brain. Yogis regard the head stand (Sirshasana) as the major posture to increase capacity and power in the brain. Well, this takes it to a whole new level…

Inversions can align and decompress your spine, increase blood flow, circulation and flexibility in your body, help regulate and heal your thyroid gland, reverse the aging effects of gravity, bring you a sense of relaxation and peace, increase oxygenation in your brain, and eliminate pain.

I know this from experience. On Christmas day I woke up with the worst “crick in my neck” imaginable. My pain lasted several days and none of my natural remedies or treatments helped. I decided to try out our new OM gym even with the pain in my neck and after only 2 minutes of inversion my neck felt significantly better! After 3 more OM gym sessions my pain was completely GONE!!

In conclusion I feel Richard Hittleman said it best…. “The heart is always pumping against gravity to circulate the blood into the vital organs and glands situated above it. With the body in the inverted positions those organs and glands are now below the heart. The effect of this simple maneuver on the entire organism is truly remarkable.”

Happy New Year! It’s Time To Set Some New Year’s Resolutions:)

To me, every New Year’s Eve is a special time to reflect on and give thanks for what I have accomplished in the past year and also make new year’s resolutions and renew my commitment to create the life I truly desire. Today I have five tips on how to set and accomplish your goals this year. These principles were inspired by my sexy sister Amy, who used them to train her dog. If you are a Dog lover you will also love this video…

Tip #1: True Desire Produces Results. Make sure the goals you set are really your goals. You might be surprised at how many times you set a goal that is actually someone else’s expectation for you or something to feed your ego and help you “fit in.” If you are setting the right goals for you, you will feel excited, inspired, and giddy when you think about them. Eliminate any “shoulds” from your list. Set goals that are personally profound for you.

Tip #2: We Are Creatures Of Habit. Our daily habits create our destiny. Our consistent actions are what make us and create us. Even those who think they don’t have a routine, have a routine. I encourage you to use your daily routines to accomplish your goals. I have a morning and evening routine which incorporate actions that help me achieve my goals. For example, one of my goals is to stay fit, so every morning I do rebounding and every evening I do yoga. I also have a goal to keep my home clean so in my morning routine I make my bed and clean my bathroom counter and in the evening I do dishes and invest 15 minutes picking up clutter. These actions are part of my daily routine. I also have a 1 1/2 hour “business routine” in which I do online marketing. This helps me achieve my financial goals.

Tip #3: Stay Focused. After you have determined your desired outcome and started taking action toward your goals, it’s important to stay keenly aware of the results your actions are producing. Let go of being “stuck in your ways.” If you aren’t achieving success with your actions, change them. A flight pilot is “off-course” about 90% of the time and yet she always reaches her destination because she does what is called tacking.. or constantly readjusting her direction.

Tip #4: Focus on your strengths. We are all born with special talents and abilities and a personal mission that no one else can fulfill. Instead of focusing on what you “can’t” do, focus on what you CAN do. This is where your power lies. Focus on what brings you joy and you will be living the life you are meant to live.

Tip #5: Anything is Possible. Stop putting limitations on what you can do and when you can do it. If we have a desire for something, I believe we have a sacred responsibility to fulfill it. We are meant to THRIVE and shine our light in this world. We are meant to achieve great things and be an example of what is truly possible!
