Last week was my birthday week; so, I took time off from blogging, but have no fear, I am back in action with the final installment of my Personal Alchemy Series. If you have yet to watch my other videos in this series Click Here for part 1, Click Here for part 2, and Click Here for part 3. And now, I present to you…. The Fire Element!

The amount of melanin in our skin, or color in our skin, clues us in to how much sun we really require. Melanin acts as a sunscreen and protects your skin. The darker you are, the more sun you will need to penetrate into your skin and create the vitamin D that is so VITAL to our health. As I pointed out in my video, vitamin D deficiency is linked to over 70 types of cancer and is called the “silent epidemic.” Ironically, the time in which it is most benefitial to go outside is the exact time that we have been told to stay inside, around noon. Dr. Michael Holick, who wrote the UV Advantage, tells us that about half of the year in the northern hemisphere, late fall to early spring, there is not enough UV present to create vitamin D. This is why it is very important to develop strategies which will help us to be tan, happy, and full of sunshine…

HOW TO MAXIMIZE VITAMIN D ABSORPTION

1. Get as much sun in the summertime as possible. Luckily, vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin, meaning it can be stored in your body for quite some time. If you get plenty of sun during the summer, meaning you are outside several hours a day, then you will be able to have enough vitamin D stores for the cold winter months.

2. Expose as much of your body to the sun as possible. There may be parts of your skin that have never seen the light of day! The more you expose the more sun nutrition you receive. Naked sun-bathing is very good for overall health and beauty. Seek out places and times where you can do this… or just expose as much as you are comfortable with.

3. Use cod liver oil or krill oil. Vitamin D is stored in the liver. By eating the liver of fish the Inuits were able to live healthily lives in their massively cold climate. If you live in a cold or cloudy place and are not apposed to eating animal products, this is the best vitamin D supplement. Some mushrooms and other food have a little vitamin D in them too… Plant sources contain vitamin D2 and animal sources contain vitamin D3. I suggest doing some research on foods containing this valuable nutrient. Vitamin D is extremely important to Longevity and Health!

The more we immerse ourselves in nature, the more we will gather into our bodies the quintessence, life-force, and prana which is the 5th Element. Let us all make it our intention to leave behind more of the artificial world we were born into and become more wild and FREE! Instead of watching a movie or gathering around the TV, let us gather around the fire, go out into nature, breathe fresh forest air, soak in hotsprings, drink fresh spring water, sungaze, and eat mineral dense wild food. The 5 elements are the true LIVING forces. By becoming the master of the elements, we become the master of LIFE!!

The Earth Element: Personal Alchemy Part 1

by Rose Goddess on Nov.09, 2009, under Health and Vitality

Balancing the Four Elements in our life is the basis of Longevity and Health. I always knew this intuitively and this is the reason why Daniel Vitalis’ Invincible Health Mastery Course resonated with me so deeply. In his course, Daniel explains practical steps and ways we can balance the four elements… Earth, Air, Fire, and Water for maximum health! Today’s Blog is the first of a 4 part series where I will explain a little about each of the 4 elements and what I do to invite each one into my life…

MY NEW AND IMPROVED FOOD PYRAMID

Kingdom #1: Plant Foods. In my opinion, this should be the main part of our diet. At least 50-60%. We can find massive variety and flavors in the plant kingdom. Greens, Fruits, Roots, Seaweeds, Nuts, Seeds, Grains, Herbs, Spices, Raw Vegetable Oils and Superfoods. Plant foods provide us with phyto-nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, essential fatty acids, protein, carbohydrates, etc. When eaten in it’s raw and natural state you maintain the enzyme content which is so important to every function of our body.

Kingdom #2: Cultured Foods. We have 4 times as many bacteria as we have cells. When we eat food we are actually feeding our bacteria, which transform our food into something usable for our body. Therefore it is very important to get the “friendly” bacteria in our body through fermented foods such as Kefir, Kim-Chi, and my favorite, Island Fire. I believe about 25-30% cultured foods is a very healthy ratio.

Kingdom #3: Fungi. Many people feel the fungi kingdom is harmful and can cause mold and fungus in our bodies. The opposite is actually true when you are eating medicinal mushrooms such as Reishi, Agaricus, Maitake, Shiitake, Cordyceps, etc. They help our immune system in many ways. In order to receive the precious polysaccharides these mushrooms have, they must be “cooked”. I like to make a tea out of them. About 5-10% of my diet consists of Fungi.

Kingdom #4: Animal Products. This one was a real hard one for me to accept. I was vegan for a couple of years and care very deeply about Animals and I am therefore opposed to how they are being treated. However, there are actually a few nutrients that are very difficult to find in plant foods which animal products can provide (I believe you can be fully nourished on a vegan diet but you have to be very clever to do it). Even wild Chimpanzees, whose DNA is supposedly closest to ours, eat a small amount of insects (They are mainly vegan). Since I am dedicated to my longevity, I allow myself to eat the occasional animal product as long as it is earth friendly and sustainable… Organic Bee Products, Organic and Raw Dairy Products, Deer Antler, and even Wild Game if you need to (animals that have had a very natural and free life). You don’t need a lot. About 5-10% will do.

My pyramid is a rough estimate. It’s important to let our intuition guide us as we eat from the four kingdoms of life. Eating about 80-90% raw has been an excellent longevity practice for me too;) The question to ask yourself is, “how can I do the least damage to my food while extracting the most nutrition from my food.” I hope you have enjoyed todays post!
